Our Favorite Collaborators are Collaborating again in Americanah

I am super excited to see my two favorite Wakanda women, Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia) and Danai Gurira, who starred in Black Panther together and have collaborated in many projects, work together again in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah.

I read this book in English class my junior year of college and liked it a lot. The theme is about two people who love each other and is mostly told from the main character, Ifemulu’s point of view. There is much discussion of race, social class, and comparison between Nigeria/America.

Nyong’o and Gurira got the okay to adapt Adchie’s novel into a mini series, although it was original supposed to be adapted into a film. Nyong’o is going to play Ifemulu and Gurira is going to write. Another Black Panther star is also set to play a character in the mini series.

I am very excited about this, because I love these actresses and they make a good team. I love the book too and I love Adchie because she is a feminist/gives great TED Talks. Nyong’o and Gurira will definitely bring the magic of this book to life and will do well.

This is image is important because it shows the chemistry between Nyong’o and Gurira. These two are longtime friends and collaborators, which is great because the fans like it when these two work together. I couldn’t imagine a better pair to bring Americanah to the small screen and I am sure Adchie is proud of what they are doing to her novel.
