Do You Really Know Antman?

I first discovered Ant-Man during a part-time summer job at the movie theater. After seeing the movie and Paul Rudd portrayal of the character, Ant-man quickly became my favorite hero in the marvel universe. I wanted to know more about the history of this character and was quite surprised when I found out there have been many different iterations of the character and I thought I would share a brief history of them.

Hank Pym:

Hank Pym was the original Ant-Man in the Marvel comics and the reason why Ant-Man has his powers. During his research he discovered the Pym particle; chemical particles that would allow the user to alter his size. In the beginning of the comic Ant-Man (as the name implies) solely uses the power of the pym particle to shrink. However as the comic continued through the years the pym particle was also used to grow in size. Throughout this time Hank Pym dawned many different aliases from Giant-Man, Goliath, Yellowjacket, and even the Wasp at one point.

Scott Lang:

Scott Lang was the next generation of Ant-Man to suit up. Originally stealing the suit from Hank Pym in order to save his daughter from a heart condition. In the movie however it was adapted to have him try to earn money in order to start paying child support, but the sentiment stayed the same. Throughout his time as Ant-Man he has been a part of the Fantastic Four and a part of the Avengers as seen in the recent film Civil War.

Eric O’ Grady:

Eric O’ Grady was the third person to become Ant-Man in the comics, but is quite different from what you might expect. Much like Scott Lang he stole the suit for his own purpose however he did it for his own personal gain. Originally being a low level member of S.H.I.E.L.D, he used the suit to try to attain a “superhero” status to impress women. With the suit he used it to torment and embarrass others before finally perishing in battle. Before dying he did join various teams such as the Avengers and The Thunderbolts as well.
